Entities can be thought of as modules of your business, such as a restaurant, a commissary, or an accounting unit. Each entity is identified by a name and number.
There are four kinds of entities you can define:
Restaurant A restaurant sells food and drink to customers.
Accounting
Entity An accounting entity handles the financial aspects of a
business, but does not sell food or drinks, keep inventory, or do
DSR.
You can define as many accounting entities as you want; they do not
require additional Compeat licenses. This allows you to set up multiple,
distinct financial departments for marketing, MIS, and the like, without
incurring additional licensing fees.
Commissary A commissary is effectively your own vendor to your restaurants, making accounts receivable rather than accounts payable. Defined commissaries count against your Compeat licenses.
Commissary Department Your commissary can be broken into numerous departments, each with a Compeat license. You may choose to ship product from your departments, or only from the commissary as a whole.
In addition, the Entities submenu of the Setup menu contains the names of any Enterprise Definitions you have defined; see [Store Group #1] and [Store Group #2] for more details.
Note: By default, when you define a new entity, all users' access is denied. Thus, to access a new entity, you must first go to Setup > Security > Users, and grant access to the entity on the Entity Access tab for users to whom you wish to allow access to the entity.
You can create a single restaurant or commissary entity per license, and unlimited numbers of accounting entities.
Each license code covers the number of licenses purchased at the time the license code is issued. So you do not need multiple license codes for multiple entities if the licenses were purchased together. You can create any number of accounting entities without additional licenses. You will be prompted for a license code when you have reached the maximum number of entities.
If you add additional licenses, enter the new license code on the Help > About screen before adding a new entity, otherwise you will be prompted for a license code.
