Void Gift Certificates

If a gift certificate is rendered unusable for any reason, it can be voided using the Void Gift Certificate function. By voiding, the accounting that took place when the certificate was created (see Create Gift Certificates) will be reversed — that is, the GC Inventory account will be credited and the GC Liability account will be debited.

Once a gift certificate has been issued or redeemed, it cannot be voided. A voided gift certificate can be re-used by creating a new gift certificate with the same number.

For lost or stolen certificates, the Mark Gift Certificate as Lost function should be used.

The screen appears similar to the following:

Enter the starting and ending serial numbers of the range of gift certificates you want to void, and then click Void Certificates.
