The default behavior for Excel is to recalculate every function each time data in the spreadsheet changes. You might want to change the settings so that you must manually recalculate the spreadsheet by pressing the F9 (recalculate) key.
How to change this setting: in Excel 2003, or Excel 2007.
The Compeat Add-Ins menu contains several options for recalculating (these are also available by right-clicking a cell).
Recalculate Sheet Recalculates all functions on the current sheet (and any functions that are dependent on them in other sheets). This marks cells in the current sheet as changed before calculating, so it will work in conditions where F9 would not recalculate.
Recalculate All Recalculates all open workbooks; this is the equivalent of pressing CTRL-ALT-F9.
Fast Recalculation Recalculates all open workbooks, with optimized performance. This method bundles many transactions together to be processed at once. This will significantly increase performance when running sheets against data portals that are not on the local network.
