Rebuild GL Balance Table

This utility allows you to rebuild the general ledger balance data.

The GL balance table is a table in the database that contains summary balances calculated from the general ledger data. By rebuilding the GL balance table, the system will recalculate the values in the GL balance table based on the latest data and settings in Compeat.

Problems with the GL balance table often result in eXcellent Financial Function figures differing from those in Compeat. The general ledger balance data is used to provide the GL beginning balance when printing the general ledger, so problems with the GL balance table may also present themselves in these areas.

Changes to period files, such as re-opening and closing a period, are common causes of problems with the GL balance table. Therefore, it is a good practice to rebuild the GL balance table after any change to a period file.

Caution: No other activity should occur in Compeat while the Rebuild GL Balance Table utility is running. All other users should be logged out. If data is entered while rebuilding, that data could be lost.

Other than having to discontinue work in Compeat temporarily, there is no harm in rebuilding the GL balance table frequently. It is a good first step in troubleshooting unexplained errors in your financial data.

Note: Rebuilding the GL Balance Table may take several minutes to complete. What until you receive a notification message that the GL balance table has been rebuilt successfully before continuing work in Compeat.
