Wild Card Characters

Wild card characters allow you to substitute a single character (the wild card character) for any potential combination of character(s). This can be useful in many cases, such as when you want to retrieve a group of related records (e.g., all accounts beginning with 400), or when you are unsure of the exact number or spelling of the data you wish to retrieve.

The financial functions use an asterisk(*) for a wild card character. An asterisk represents any combination of characters (or none at all). For example, you could specify 5*, and any account number that starts with a 5 will be returned. This includes 5000-000, 5555-555, 5140-001, and so on.

Note: You can use wild card characters when specifying the account number parameter and the entity number parameter. To select all of a particular type of record, simply enter an asterisk and nothing else.
